Introduction

Traveling with bravery, strength, heart, and power come naturally when traveling on the new cruise ship, Valiant Lady. You will feel her courage and determination quite as you experience a re-engineered cruising experience!

Get new perspectives on the Caribbean from the VV homeport in Miami — setting sail through turquoise waters and painted skies. From quiet beach mornings to exhilarating afternoons spent exploring, every sailing makes a stop at our private beach club experience in Bimini, Bahamas.

Off the coast of Honduras, Roatán sits proudly atop the largest reef in the Caribbean — making the island an unmatched spot to dive among the vibrant coral and sea-life. With crisp, white sand nestling into sapphire waters, beaches like Little French Key and West Bay make relaxation an art form.

Relax with restorative options like beachside yoga classes and lounging by the pool in a private cabana. As the day winds down with a beachside bonfire, the night gives way to a vibrant-colored sunset apropo of the idyllic time spent on the islands.

Overview

Cruise through the Caribbean on our six-night sail — featuring late-night stays in both Roatán, Honduras and at The Beach Club at Bimini, Bahamas (leaving at 10 pm). On the sail, you’ll also stop for a full-day (10 am to 7 pm) in Costa Maya to explore the rich history and turquoise waters of Mexico.

Cheeky Corner Suite: Pretty Big Terrace

Perfect for anyone looking for wrapping panoramic views of the wake from the back corners of our ship. All of our furniture is designed to enhance the views — from our custom interior wicker chairs to the red terrace hammocks hand-woven by artisan mothers in Thailand.

Hangover and chill: Need a little 'me' time? We get it. Throw on something comfy, dine in, and we'll help you detox before you retox.

Any trip to Florida is not complete without a peek at Miami’s grand array of attractions. When most people think of Miami, the first thing that comes to mind is the spectacular beaches. But there’s a lot more to Florida’s party city than its amazing white sand and crystal blue waters. A vibrant, energetic city all year round, Miami boasts beautiful parks, gardens, spots to unwind and places to rave it up.

Map

Located at the mouth of the Miami River on the lower east coast of Florida, Miami is bordered on the east by Biscayne Bay, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean. Further east, the islands of Key Biscayne and Miami Beach shelter the bay from the Atlantic Ocean, thus providing Miami with a naturally protected harbor. Once pine and palmetto flatlands, the Miami area boasts sandy beaches in its coastal areas and gives way to sparsely wooded outlying areas. A man-made canal connects the city to Lake Okeechobee, located 90 miles northwest of Miami.

Miami's year-round semi-tropical climate is free of extremes in temperature, with a long, warm summer and abundant rainfall followed by a mild, dry winter. Summer humidity levels—usually in the 86 to 89 percent range during the day—make Miami the second most humid city in the United States. Hurricanes occasionally affect the area in September and October; tornadoes are rare. Waterspouts are sometimes sighted from the beaches in the summer, but significant damage seldom occurs.

Even if there was no beach, Miami would still have undeniable allure. The gorgeous 1930s hotels lining Ocean Dr are part of the world’s greatest collection of art deco buildings. Tropical motifs, whimsical nautical elements and those iconic pastel shades create a cinematic backdrop for exploring the streets of Miami Beach. Of course, you don’t have to see these architectural beauties at arm’s length. Lavishly restored, Miami’s art deco and mid-century modern hotels are also the playground for locals and out-of-towners alike, with sunny poolside terraces, artfully designed dining rooms and plush nightclubs.

Chalk it up to Miami’s diverse population, or perhaps its love of always being on the cutting edge. Whatever the reason, creativity is one of the great hallmarks of this city. From art and design to global cuisine, Miami remains ever on the search for bold new ideas, which manifest themselves in surprising ways. You’ll find brilliantly inventive chefs blending Eastern and Western cooking styles, sustainably designed buildings inspired by South Florida ecosystems and open-air galleries where museum-quality artwork covers once-derelict warehouses. The one constant in Miami is its uncanny ability to astonish.

When the sun sets and the brilliant colors of a South Florida sunset fill the sky, that’s when the best part of the day begins for Miami’s party people. By moonlight, all the magic of the city unfolds, in its salsa-filled dance halls, swanky candlelit lounges, and rooftop bars with sweeping views over Biscayne Bay and the glittering city skyline. While there’s plenty of bling on display, Miami has something for all, from backyard bars full of indie rockers to hidden dens of debauchery concealed behind neon-lit taco stands.

The streets of Miami Beach are lined with high-end dining establishments teeming with the smells of Peruvian, Cuban, Caribbean, Asian and American cuisine – sometimes all at once. What other cities call "fusion" has a name of its own in Miami Beach: "Floribbean." Prepare to be impressed with its taste and the relatively cheap prices. The South Beach area does have its share of moderately priced eateries, but the most affordable options are tucked away on the side streets. With year-round sunshine, Miami is always beckoning beach goers, party animals, and art aficionados. Use these packing list ideas for Miami as a launching point for packing for your trip. When deciding what to wear in Miami, keep in mind that the temperatures are hot and the style is even hotter. This is the place to wear your most glamorous and daring ensembles.

Risque cut outs and bodycon dresses are commonplace here, even for daywear. This sensual style is largely due to the large Latinx community that lives here and has a zest for living life colorfully and embracing each moment as an opportunity to celebrate with music, dance, and delicious cuisine.

If revealing clothes aren’t your style, don’t fret. Just keep in mind that the brighter your outfits are, the more you’ll fit in. Miami is one of the many fashion hubs in the United States, especially for swimwear and beach style, so you’re likely to come across many emerging trends.

Unlike other coastal cities, bohemian style is not the go-to for locals who are anything but boho or hippies. The most important thing when creating your travel capsule wardrobe for Miami is to stay true to your own unique sense of dress and to have fun with what you’re wearing!

When planning what to pack, remember that year-round temperatures in the subtropical climate tend to stay above 75°F.  Rain is possible during all seasons, so definitely pack a small umbrella that can easily be tossed into your day bag.

Roatan, Honduras

19th April 2022

Roatán is the largest and most developed of the Bay Islands. Long and thin (50km long, but only 2km to 4km wide), the island is (like neighboring Utila) a diving and snorkeling paradise – virtually its entire coastline is fringed by an astonishingly diverse coral reef teeming with tropical fish. On land, exquisite white-sand beaches like West Bay, a mountainous interior of pine-forested hills and the remote wild east of the island (once a pirate hangout) beg to be explored.

Roatán attracts a far more midrange crowd than Utila, and has fewer budget options. Nearly all backpackers base themselves in West End, where most of the shoestring places are located along with a lively and fun traveler's scene.

Gigantic cruise ships visit Roatán regularly, but dock at Coxen Hole or Mahogany Bay. You'll probably see minivans full of cruise-shippers around the island's hot spots during the day.

Map

Roatán is an island in the Caribbean, about 65 kilometres (40 mi) off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja, and is the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras. The island was formerly known in English as Ruatan and Rattan.

It is approximately 77 kilometres (48 mi) long, and less than 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) across at its widest point. The island consists of two municipalities: José Santos Guardiola in the east and Roatán, including the Cayos Cochinos, further south in the west.

The island rests on an exposed ancient coral reef, rising to about 270 metres (890 ft) above sea level. Offshore reefs offer opportunities for diving. Most habitation is in the western half of the island.

The most populous town of the island is Coxen Hole, capital of Roatán municipality, located in the southwest. West of Coxen Hole are the settlements of Gravel Bay, Flowers Bay and Pensacola on the south coast, and Sandy Bay, West End and West Bay on the north coast. To the east of Coxen Hole are the settlements of Mount Pleasant, French Harbour, Parrot Tree, Jonesville and Oakridge on the south coast, and Punta Gorda on the north coast.

The easternmost quarter of the island is separated by a channel through the mangroves that is 15 metres wide on average. This section is called Helene, or Santa Elena in Spanish. Satellite islands at the eastern end are Morat, Barbareta, and Pigeon Cay. Further west between French Harbour and Coxen Hole are several cays, including Stamp Cay and Barefoot Cay.

The standard breakfast in Honduras is a plate of eggs, normally scrambled, tortillas, cheese and ham, which is highly fulfilling. For those wanting a more western option, breakfasts such as cornflakes are available.

One of the most common foods, which can be found all over the country is the baleada, a white flour tortilla filled with beans, cheese, and cream. Baleadas are sold on the numerous snack vendors lining the streets, an inexpensive and fulfilling snack, several baleadas could constitute a meal. Many of the street vendors also sell Tajadas, which is fried plantain.

A more imaginative dish in Honduras is the delicious Pinchos, a shish kebab, which is skewered and then grilled with plenty of vegetables. This meal is served with an anafre, this is a heated clay pot filled with beans, cheese and cream, great accompanied with toasted tortillas.

The national dish of Honduras is Plato Tipico, a plate of food with many accompaniments including beef, the stable diet of the country, fried plantain, beans, marinated cabbage, sour cream, and plenty of tortillas on the side.

The main and stable diet in Honduras consists of meat, and there are options for vegetarians however few. The most easily available dish would be rice, beans and cooked vegetables.

Many travelers planning to visit Roatan in the western Caribbean look for the Roatan weather & climate patterns beforehand. Individuals traveling from North America and Canada will be pleased to know that the temperatures vary only about 10 degrees throughout the entire year. Roatan’s tropical rainforest climate is consistent and ideal for land and sea adventurers.

Roatan doesn’t have a dry season and the tropical weather of the Caribbean allows for the occasional thunderstorm. Off shore trade-winds, rain, and overcast are all part of the tropical landscape. However, no need to worry, just as fast as the clouds roll in, that’s how fast the sunshine can reappear.

Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands and seldom comes in contact with hurricane activity. However, the island did receive substantial damage from Hurricane Mitch in 1998. We have compiled data from various sources on Roatan weather & climate patterns. This will hopefully give you an understanding of what to expect when visiting Roatan and the other Bay Islands.

You are not going to Siberia, so you probably won’t need that winter jacket that takes up an entire suitcase. A scarf and winter shoes should also stay in the closet. It’s usually hot in Roatan and you will spend a lot of time on the beach. Don’t forget to pack shorts, shirts, and flip flops. Having multiple bathing suits may come in handy and you won’t have to worry if that swimsuit from yesterday is dry or not.

People tend to walk a lot while on vacation, therefore, it is wise to have a pair or two of super comfy sneakers with you. Imagine going hiking in Roatan in some uncomfortable shoes and getting blisters on the second day of your vacation. I’m quite sure that no traveler would want this.

If you want to chill on the beach without having to worry if your skin will burn, make sure to bring plenty of sunblock on vacation. Of course, waterproof sunblock with that has high levels of SPF is recommended, as well as a couple of hats to prevent headaches from the hot sun. To avoid contact with insects, pack a bug spray in your suitcase.

In the lesser-known region of the Mayan Riviera—with its rich history, quaint beaches, and blue lagoon cenotes—towns like Mahahaul and Xcalak make Costa Maya the Mexican port you didn’t know you needed.  Raw and less-curated than other ports in the region, beach towns Mahahaul and Xcalak give you a glimpse into a somewhat undisturbed side of the Yucatán Peninsula—often feeling like Tulum before it became Tu-lum. Drenched with reminders (and ruins) of the Mayan history that built the region, exploring the area feels like a study in contrasts—a dynamic balance of who it was and what it’s becoming.

Bimini, Bahamas

22nd April 2022

Bimini has long been known as the Bahamas' big game-fishing capital. Bimini's strong tourist season falls from spring through summer, when calmer seas mean the arrival of fishing and pleasure boats from South Florida. The nearest of the Bahamian islands to the U.S. mainland, Bimini consists of two main islands and a few cays just 50 miles east of Miami, across the Gulf Stream that sweeps the area's western shores. Most visitors spend their time on bustling North Bimini; South Bimini is quieter and more eco-oriented. Except for the vast new Resorts World Bimini development that occupies the island's northern third, most of the hotels, restaurants, churches, and stores in Bimini are in capital Alice Town and neighboring Bailey Town and Porgy Bay, along North Bimini's King's and Queen's highways. Along the east coast of North Bimini are long beaches; on the west, the protected harbor, docks, and marinas. Most of the islands' 2,500 inhabitants reside in the southern 2-mile southern built-up area. Although Alice Town is walkable, the preferred (and fun) way to scoot around is by golf cart. Resorts World Bimini has increased North Bimini's bustle and economy. Three times a week, its Superfast Bimini cruise ship brings over between 500 and 1,000 guests from Miami who spread around the island enjoying its beaches, eateries, bars, nightclubs, and casino.

Bimini is the westernmost district of the Bahamas and comprises a chain of islands located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) due east of Miami. Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States and approximately 210 km (130 mi) west-northwest of Nassau. The population is 1,988 as of the 2010 census.

Bimini has three islands, North Bimini, South Bimini, and East Bimini. The largest islands are North Bimini and South Bimini. The District of Bimini also includes Cay Sal Bank, more than 100 km (60 mi) further south, which is geographically not a part of the Bimini Islands but a separate unit.North Bimini is about 11 km (7 mi) long and 200 m (700 ft) wide. Its main settlement is Alice Town, a collection of shops, restaurants, and bars on a road known as "The King's Highway". The second major road is called Queens Highway and runs almost the length of the island parallel to Kings Highway.

South Bimini houses an airstrip, South Bimini Airport, and offers a quiet alternative to the slow bustle of North Bimini. There is a small community of homes on South Bimini known as Port Royale. For many years, South Bimini tourists were limited to boaters because there were few accommodations other than private homes.

Because Bimini is close to Miami, Florida, many American anglers go to the islands by boat to fish or to enjoy the local nightlife. Scuba diving and snorkeling are also popular activities, as there are many shipwrecks in the area, such as the wreck of the SS Sapona, which ran aground in 1926 during a hurricane. The top of the ship is exposed to the air while the bottom half is submerged.[5] Parts of the wreck were stripped over the years and some of the wood was used in the construction of the Compleat Angler Hotel and bar on North Bimini.

The charming islands in the Bimini group are only 50 miles east of Miami and draw visitors from all over the globe with the promise of big-game fishing. However, there’s more to Bimini than the lure of large game fish, since it offers a delightful selection of local island eats that ranges from fresh conch and lobster salad to its famously sweet Bimini bread. Seafood is one of the main staples in the Bahamian diet—a cuisine that is never bland or boring. And while you can find virtually any type of international cuisine in The Bahamas, in Bimini you won’t have any trouble finding fresh local delicacies at reasonable prices.

Clothing & Dress
Expand

With the Bahamas located 45 miles from the east coast of Florida, the weather on the islands mimics that of the mainland state. Popular dress naturally reflects the climate. The proximity to the U.S. also influences island style, which reveals lingering influence from the country's days as a British possession.

The Bahamas attract affluent and successful people, who either make their homes on the islands or visit to enjoy a respite from the often strict confines imposed upon them elsewhere by their rank or position. While locals wear flip-flops, cut-off jeans shorts and T-shirts with all manner of logos, visitors at the swankier hotels or out to dine in casual restaurants more typically don brand-name tennis shoes, polo shirts and cargo pants. Even at the most costly and aloof restaurants, management expects casual wear if the subject of dress code does not come up in the process of booking a table. Tourism largely drives the islands' economy, and hospitality staff are always happy to offer guidance on cultural expectations.
